A lack of sunlight shouldn’t stop you from having luscious, beautiful greenery in your home. These indoor plants don’t need sunlight and are perfect for beginners or those with dark rooms.
Pro Tip: The darker the leaves, the more direct sunlight the plant will need. Choose a plant with a lighter leaf variety for darker rooms.
1. Cast Iron Plant
Cast Iron plants as the name suggests is a hardy plant. They are extremely slow to grow, but need little to no sunlight. Great for beginners, the cast iron plant is hard to kill.
2. Dragon Tree
The Dragon Tree, also known as Dracaena Marginata, is an extremely durable and hardy plant.
Almost impossible to kill, needing very little water, the dragon tree doesn’t need any indirect sunlight. In fact, direct sunlight could damage the tree.
3. Snake Plant
The Snake Plant not only looks great in any room, but is great for beginners! Needing no direct sunlight and little water (just a watering once a month!), this durable plant is super popular for indoor rooms.
4. ‘ZZ’ Plant
The ZZ Plant can not only survive with very little sunlight, but it’s also drought resistant making it a perfect addition to any forgetful owner’s home! It’s considered one of the hardiest indoor plants around.
Adding a vibrant pop of green to any home, the Monstera plant needs very little to no sunlight. Plus, it’s a natural air purifier.
6. Silver Queen
A beautiful medium sized plant perfect for any indoor room. These plants are cold sensitive though, so make sure to place it in a warmer, dry spot.
7. Sword Fern
Want to bring Jurassic Park to your indoor living space? The sword fern is not only perfect for beginners, but it’s a hardy indoor place that looks incredibly luscious and green.
Ideal for wet rooms and bathrooms where the air is more humid. The Sword Fern also likes acidic soil, so may need fertiliser too.
8. Dumb Cane
Searching for a taller indoor plant that needs little sunlight? Dumb Cane is popular for its stunning leaves and ability to grow up to 5 feet tall.
If you have pets or children, keep out of their reach as the plant is poisonous if eaten.
9. Peace Lily
The Peace Lily is perfect for you if you’re looking for a plant that doesn’t need much attention.
Hardy, durable and super pretty, the peace lily loves shade and needs very little water. They flower a few times a year and are oh so pretty!
10. Zebra Cactus
Surprisingly, this cactus doesn’t need much sunlight.
Named for its striking black and white stripes, the Zebra cactus is a succulent that is fairly sensitive to cold temperatures, needs little water and blooms beautiful white-brown flowers in the summer months.
